🐒 The Clever Monkey and the Foolish Crocodile: A Moral Story for Kids

🌿 Introduction

Stories told by parents and grandparents carry a special magic, especially when shared in our mother tongue. This tale of “The Clever Monkey and the Foolish Crocodile” is inspired by my own childhood memories—my grandmother used to tell it to me, adding the playful sound “Xeew xaoo, xeew xaoo” to mimic the crocodile swimming in the river.

🏞️ A River, a Banana Tree, and a Friendship

Once upon a time, a beautiful river flowed through a lush green forest. On its bank stood a tall, healthy banana tree, where a clever little monkey lived.
In the same river lived a huge crocodile. Despite being very different, the monkey and the crocodile were close friends. Every day, the monkey would pluck sweet, ripe bananas from the tree and share them with his crocodile friend.

🐊 The Crocodile’s Wife Falls Sick

One day, the crocodile’s wife, who lived deep in the river, fell seriously ill. The worried crocodile took her to a wise crocodile doctor.
After examining her, the doctor said,
“Your wife has a dangerous disease. The only cure is for her to eat a monkey’s kidney.”

The crocodile was heartbroken but determined to save his wife.

🎭 A Trick to Catch the Monkey

Thinking hard, the crocodile came up with a plan. He swam up the river, making the familiar sound “Xeew xaoo, xeew xaoo”—the sound my mother always made when telling this part of the story, to mimic the crocodile splashing through the water.

When he reached the riverbank, he found his friend eating bananas.
“Hello, friend!” said the monkey. “Want some bananas?”
“No, thank you,” replied the crocodile. Instead, he said,
“Come with me! There’s a special spot in the river where you’ll find fruits sweeter than these bananas.”

Excited and trusting his friend, the monkey jumped on the crocodile’s back. Together they swam out into the deep river.

🤯 The Monkey’s Quick Thinking

In the middle of the river, the crocodile finally revealed his plan.
“My wife is ill, and the doctor said she can only be cured if she eats a monkey’s kidney. I brought you here for her.”

The monkey was terrified but quickly came up with a clever idea.
“Oh, my dear friend! Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I left my kidneys back on the banana tree to dry after washing them. Let’s go back, and I’ll bring them for your wife.”

The gullible crocodile turned around immediately. As soon as they reached the shore, the monkey leapt back into his tree and shouted,
“You foolish crocodile! Who washes their kidneys and leaves them to dry? You tried to trick me, but I outsmarted you!”

Ashamed, the crocodile swam back into the deep water, again making the sound “Xeew xaoo, xeew xaoo.”

Cleverness and quick thinking can save you from danger. And trust should always be earned.
