The Unbroken Bond: A Soldier’s Love Beyond Distance and Deception
Introduction
Love is a journey that often faces trials of distance, sacrifice, and sometimes even betrayal. This is the story of Khayaban, a brave army man, and his beloved Zura Khatoon, whose love endured despite separation, lies, and heartbreak — only to be reunited in the most unexpected way.
The Soldier’s Proposal
Once upon a time, there lived a small family — a father, a mother, and their only son, Khayaban. Khayaban was a soldier, serving on the borders with courage and honor. His life was tough, full of sacrifices, and he could only return home after long intervals.
One day, he expressed his heartfelt wish to his parents: he wanted to marry the girl he deeply loved, Zura Khatoon. Respecting his choice, his parents agreed, and soon Khayaban and Zura Khatoon were married in a joyous celebration.
A Lonely Bride
Their happiness, however, was short-lived. Soon after the wedding, Khayaban was called back to the borders for duty. Zura Khatoon stayed with her in-laws, feeling lonely and longing for her husband, while Khayaban missed her deeply on the front lines.
He would write letters full of love and care, sending them home to his parents. In his letters, he often wrote about how they should treat his beloved wife gently: “If she is standing, don’t ask her to sit; if she is sitting, don’t ask her to stand. Care for her and never raise your voice at her.”
But instead of giving these letters to Zura Khatoon, his parents kept them hidden. When she would lovingly ask her mother-in-law if any letter had arrived from Khayaban — “khayaban Chum dakan dibila aga mama?” (Did you receive a letter, my dear mother-in-law?) — she would receive only a harsh reply: “Ya say nass boot bileling ayeti” (No, don’t miss him).
Cruelty and Deception
Despite Khayaban’s words of love, his parents treated Zura Khatoon with cruelty. Eventually, they sent her away from the house. In a shocking act of deception, they even created a dummy head to make Khayaban believe that his wife had died. They hung this false head at the doorstep, preparing for the day he would return.
When Khayaban finally came home on leave, his world was shattered. Seeing the dummy head of his beloved, he lost his senses. Grief consumed him, and he carried the dummy everywhere, treating it as if it were his living wife.
Whenever someone offered him food, he would first place it before the dummy head, whispering: “If you are alive, may you be happy. If you have died, may God grant you heaven.”
The Fateful Reunion
In his madness, Khayaban wandered from place to place until fate brought him to where Zura Khatoon lived. Out of pity, she offered him food, not realizing at first that the madman before her was her own husband.
She noticed he was hiding something under his arm and insisted on seeing it. To her shock, he revealed the dummy head — her own likeness. Stunned, she asked who he was, and he replied, “My name is Khayaban.”
Realizing the depth of the cruel deception, Zura Khatoon struck the dummy with a stick, causing the flour inside to burst out. Khayaban, thinking he had lost the last memory of his wife, collapsed in despair, crying: “Wa jee, Zura Khatoonai sis lo lo!” (Oh my life, Zura Khatoon’s head!).
The Truth Revealed
Moved by his pain, the real Zura Khatoon sprinkled water on him until he regained consciousness. She revealed the truth — that she was alive, and it was his parents who had betrayed them both.
Khayaban wept with relief, embracing his beloved wife. Together, they left behind the cruelty of the past and began a new life, finally united and living happily ever after.🌟 Moral of the Story
True love can withstand distance, deception, and even the deepest pain. Lies and cruelty may create shadows, but truth and sincerity always bring light. The bond between two hearts built on love and loyalty is unbreakable, no matter how harsh the trials of life may be.
