The Thief of Misar – The Golden Palace Heist
Introduction
Long ago, in the bustling city of Misar, there lived a master thief known for his cleverness, courage, and unmatched tricks. His son admired him and wished to follow in his footsteps. The father, although strict, wanted his son to be well-trained and skillful before stepping into the dangerous world of thievery.
In Part 1 of the tale, the boy had proven his skills by stealing eggs from a magpie’s nest and even sneaking away his father’s trousers during training. Now, in Part 2, the story continues as father and son set their eyes on a new challenge—the treasure of the king’s palace.
A New Challenge
After watching his son’s progress, the master thief declared,
“You are ready now. It’s time for us to attempt something bigger—something that will test your courage and cleverness.”
The boy’s eyes sparkled with excitement. He asked eagerly,
“What is it, Father?”
The father leaned closer and whispered,
“The palace is filled with gold and jewels. Tonight, we shall take them without the guards ever knowing.”
Disguise and Deception
Under the cover of night, the two thieves disguised themselves as palace guards. They moved silently through the shadows, careful not to make a sound. The boy followed his father’s every step, his heart racing with both fear and thrill.
Finally, they reached the golden storehouse of the palace. The heavy iron doors stood tall, but their disguises and cleverness got them through.
The Heap of Gold
When the doors creaked open, the father and son gasped in awe. Before them lay heaps of shining gold coins, dazzling jewelry, and precious gems.
The son whispered loudly, forgetting himself,
“What a mountain of gold! We will take the jewelry to Mother, and with the rest we will become rich!”
The father chuckled and added,
“Yes, this treasure will change our lives forever.”
But in their excitement, they forgot they were thieves on a mission. Their voices echoed inside the golden hall.
The Guards Hear the Noise
At the entrance, the palace guards frowned.
“Did you hear that?” one guard whispered.
“Yes! Someone is inside the gold store!” replied another.
The guards rushed to open the heavy doors. Meanwhile, the thieves quickly filled their bags with gold and prepared to escape.
The Narrow Escape
There was only one way out—a tiny window leading to the palace stairs. The son, being small and quick, slipped through easily. The father tried next, but his large head got stuck in the window frame.
“Father! Push harder!” cried the boy, trying to pull him out.
But it was no use—the father was trapped. The guards were fast approaching. Thinking quickly, the boy managed to drag his father’s body out but had to leave the head stuck in the window.
When the guards arrived, all they saw was the master thief’s head, still caught in the frame.
The King’s Trick
The guards brought the head to the king. The wise king ordered,
“Hang this head in the town square. Whoever cries upon seeing it will surely be a relative of the thief. Then we shall catch the rest of his family.”
So, the head was displayed in the busiest street of Misar.
The Clever Wife
The son hurried home and explained everything to his mother.
“Mother, the king has displayed Father’s head. They hope someone will weep and reveal themselves. But I have a plan.”
The grieving wife nodded. Her son handed her a clay pot filled with milk and instructed,
“Go to the square. When you see the head, cry loudly and smash the pot. Say that your sorrow is for the spilled milk, not for Father. That way, no one will suspect us.”
The next morning, she walked into the square, saw her husband’s head, and began to weep bitterly. She smashed the clay pot, and milk spilled across the ground.
The guards rushed forward.
“Aha! You must be his wife. Come with us to the king.”
But the woman scolded them sharply.
“Fools! I am crying for my lost milk, not for this dreadful head. Who would not cry in fear seeing such a terrible sight? My pot slipped from my hand, and I lost my milk—that is why I weep.”
Confused, the guards reported to the king. The king sighed,
“This plan has failed. Remove the head and bury it.”
The Hidden Treasure
And so, the thieves succeeded. The father’s head was buried with honor, while the gold they had stolen remained hidden safely in their home. The boy had not only proved his skills but had also shown his cleverness in saving his family from capture.
The adventures of the Thief of Misar did not end here—many more daring tricks and escapes awaited them in the days to come.
